When it comes to the UK aka United Kingdom, there seems to be this broad appeal and fascination. However, when you ask many non-Europeans, what the UK really is, they picture Great Britain in their minds. While that might be true, there are several others countries that help form the UK. Of course, there is England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Collectively, they are known as the UK. In regards to symbolism, the British flag is recognized world-wide with its blue colors along with the red and white crosses on it. In the land of things royal, many of the state functions and event the armed forces have the “royal” in front of it. The only exception is the British Army, which is actually a dissimilar collection of groups joined together. Some of these other royal forces stretch back into history to past the World Wars and the Battle of Britain, one of the first battles fought almost entirely by air.
Of course, there is a lot more to the UK in regards to history. After all, it extends back to ancient times, back when such structures as the Stonehenge were built. Perhaps, one of the first things you might want to look up before traveling to the UK is the weather. The UK weather is often joked about. It can be rather temperate with some really cold days and some really warm days. And it always seems to be raining! When you travel to the UK, be sure to tune in to the UK weather forecast each morning before venturing out. And just know that traveling with an umbrella can be a smart move!
And speaking of travel, if you were to fly to the UK, chances are that you might end up on a British Airways flight. It is one of the major airlines that fly into the United Kingdom with frequency. If you find yourself at loose ends while in the UK, one of your stops should be the British Museum, especially if you are a history buff. And of course, if you want some down time with a little reading, you can buy one of the local British newspapers. You can even find versions of some of the United States magazines like Maxim UK. And if you are really bored, you can find an internet café or bring your laptop with you and do a little online UK shopping.
