Before the 1960’s were over, Reno, Nevada took a back seat to the gaming industry in Las Vegas. However, before that time, the city of Reno was THE place to gamble and partake of the local entertainment. In recent years, things have taken an upturn in Reno, NV and now there are more casino resorts being built and tourism dollars are starting to roll into the city coffers once more. Reno, in part, was put on the map back in the late 1800’s thanks to mining, specifically for gold and silver. In fact, it is due to the silver that the official nickname for Nevada is the Silver State. And this silver carries over into new tourism and growth with the new casino called Silver Legacy in Reno. Other notable Reno casinos include Harrah’s, Atlantis and Peppermill. There is also the Circus Circus in Reno and many more hotels and casinos. Part of the revitalization of Reno stems from the different events they sponsor and bring to the area. When events come into town that means hotels are booked and restaurants are patronized. One of the most notable events is the Reno Air Races.
When it comes to traveling to Reno, Nevada for business or pleasure, chances are that you will fly into the Reno Airport. Actually there are two of them – the Reno/Tahoe International Airport and a local one called Reno Stead Airport. It depends on where you are traveling from as to which one you will fly into.
