Maine (ME)
The state of Maine (ME) earned its nickname “The Pine Tree” state for the simple fact that about ninety percent of the state is covered in pine trees! Maine is a heavily forested state that is home to over fifty lighthouses and the largest city is Portland, Maine at fewer than 70,000 people. The land of Maine (ME) is known to be beautiful with the majestic trees and wildlife but the winters can be quite unforgiving to an unsuspecting visitor not accustomed to freezing temperatures. When you view a map of Maine, you will see numerous streams and lakes which only add to the appeal of the Maine “wilderness.” In fact, that is why many people visit this state every year. There is a variety of lodging in Maine (ME) available quaint inns to modern hotels and resorts to vacation rentals and cottages. If you plan to stick around Maine for any length of time, renting a cottage or cabin makes sense because not only will you save money on hotels but you would be more comfortable as well. To find some of these rentals, you would likely go through a Maine real estate office or even browse the internet and read some of the local Maine newspapers online for advertisements for rentals. And if you fall in love with this beautifully wooded state, you could go through the same channels to find Maine land for sale as well.
While Maine (ME), our 23rd state, is one of the least populous in the nation, they still have a Maine state lottery with proceeds going to various causes like conservation. In addition, you could find jobs in Maine as there is a big tourist trade in addition to the local economic mainstays like ship building, fishing, agricultural products and more. And if you decide to stay, you just might want to find a furry companion at the Humane Society of Maine (ME).
Education is important in this state and hosts a number of campuses both at the community college and four-year levels. For instance, you have the University of Maine as well as the University of Southern Maine. There is also a law school, art college and even a seminary. The state of Maine (ME) is also known for having four separate United States Navy Ships named for it. The first was sunk in 1898 during the Spanish-American war. The second ship was launched in the year 1901 and eventually decommissioned over twenty years later. The third ship was canceled and the fourth ship was launched in 1994 and is still active to this day.
